Day 24 6/29/10 Las Vegas to Placerville

We took the long way home along 395. It is so beautiful especially when we got into California. When we got to Lee Vining the gas was $4.00 a gallon, needless to say we didn't stop there to fill up. Our new truck has perform perfectly and the gas miles was 22 miles per hour which isn't bad for a big truck. We stopped off at Topaz Lake for dinner. It was beautiful. I think most of the time I talk about restaurants, but sometimes that is the highlight of the day, especially going thru Arizona and Nevada. I am not a desert person and love my California. Arrived home at 10:00 and the house was so clean, thanks to Nicole and Jeff.

Our total trip was over 7,000 miles. Would I do it again, probably not but so glad I did. I have only 5 states in the US that I have not been to: Alaska, North Dakota, Michigan, Connecticut, and Louisiana. For future travel my idea is to fly to destination, rent a car and see the area more closely. Hope I have not bored everyone to death. Will post pictures soon.

Day 24 6/29/19 -Las Vegas to Home

Left Las Vegas around 9:00 and took our time returning home. We took the long way home stopping off in Tonapah. Mom's sister (which she never knew) is buried there in Tonapah. I found the grave right away as I have been there before. I felt a connection to this little girl and don't know why. As I was walking to the truck there was a bouquet of silk red roses just lying on the dirt with no graves there, so I did a thing my mother would have also done, I put the flowers on Andja's grave. Don't know how long it will stay there as the wind was really blowing. There was a vase with faded flowers there but these looked so good.



We went over to the recorder's office to see if I could get a copy of her birth/death certificate. The dates I have do not match as to what was on the headstone. Close but not correct. I know this happens all the time and wanted to see if I could get some help since I was in the area. Talked to a nice girl in the office and she said I needed to go to the state and obtain the records.



We were going to stop off at Yosemite, but since we didn't have any reservations and the 4th of July week was coming up we figured it wouldn't

Day 23 Monday 6/28/10 Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and Las Vegas

Got up early and didn't have to worry about showering (no showers there) and I slept in my clothes I was wearing today. Jonny had gotten up in the middle of the night as someone was snoring. I think he thought it was me, but I don't snore. It was nice having the tent all to myself. I just may like camping - nah!! We went back to the area we were in yesterday and the view looked different in the morning, than it did in the evening. What a wonder of the world. If I was 20 years younger I think I would have taken the donkey ride to the bottom of the canyon, but I wasn't going to chance dying, really I didn't want to hurt the animal.

We drove for 200 + miles to Las Vegas stopping off and viewing Hoover Dam. There is a major construction of roads and bridges in this area. Everyone has to go thru a security just to drive over the dam. We were asked to look in the back of our truck. The policemen asked what we had under the blanket, and when Jonny told him dirty clothes he didn't need to look futher. Probably got a wiff. Then drove to Las Vegas, this is probably one of the ugliest areas on our entire trip. Once you get to Vegas its not bad but the area between Hoover Dam and Vegas is bad. Why would anyone want to live there.

Met with an friend for dinner that Jonny was in the Navy with Samuel Adams. He was very nice and recognized Jonny right away, We stayed at Circus Circus as it was cheap. The room was very nice and quiet. I think we are heading home tomorrow. I am so anxious to do laundry and to wear something different, and get on the scale. Sam took us to a very nice Asian buffet and really over ate, even the desserts were good.

Day 22 Sunday 6/27/10 Grand Canyon

I couldn't write about yesterday as we did not have a wi-fi service. We brought a tent with us just in case and we used it. We went to church in Flagstaff (a pretty town). It was a big young ward with lots of babies. The chuch building was different than any I have ever been in.

After church we changed our clothes and drove to Sedona. Very pretty town with lots of red dirt. They make a big deal about the red dirt and make t=shirts using the dirt to color the shirts. I remember when the kids were little doing eveything I could to get the red dirt out of their white shirts. The town is an arties town and it must be a spiritual town, in an area of 3 blocks I saw Palm Readers, and Taro card readers.

After a good lunch we drove to the Grand Canyon. I was there 43 years ago and still don't remember how massive it is. When we were there before I think we were at the North Rim. Jonny was sick then and we just stopped, looked over the side and left. This time we took lots of pictures (still haven't figured out how to post them). We stopped off at a hotel on the entrance of the park to see how much a room was. It wasn't even a nice hotel, and they wanted $150, and it was next to the ice machine and soda machine. If I was going to spend that much money I sure wouldn't want my room in that location. When we entered the park the ranger asked in anyone in the car was 62 or older (Jonny loves when he is carded). The fee for getting into the park was $25 but since we are old we got a card for $10 and it lets us in all federal parks for free. What a deal and it is good for our life time. Our only other option was camping. As most of you know I am not a camper but I really enjoyed it. It was only $18 and we were right in the middle of the action. We had to go to bed at 9:00 as we had no lights and nothing else to do.

About 4:00 a.m. Jonny got us as someone was snoring too loudly. Can't figure that one out as I never heard anyone snoring. I slept in until 7:00 and was really rested. Jonny slept in the front of the truck and didn't sleep well at all. Don't know why he didn't use his earplugs.

Day 21 - 6/26/10 Snowflake & Flagstaff

Left Albuquerque at 9:00 a.m. anddrove 476 miles today. Went to the Snowflake temple. It is very beautiful but out in the middle of no where. Don't know what people do there for work. We had lunch at Arby's which we haven't eaten at in years. The only other place to eat was McDonalds, or pizza. Not one resturant I would find.

There is a new upscale housing tract by the temple and I am sure most of them are mormons. Beautiful, gigantic homes. This part of Arizona and all of New Mexico is not very pretty, Nevada even looks better. When we came into Flagstaff the scenry changed dramatically. It is very pretty. There was a big beer brewfest in town and it took us a long time to find a room. We were able to walk to a small diner for dinner, and I had some really good liver/onions yumm!!!

Day 20 6/25/10 Amarillo - Alburquerque, NM

Left Lincoln Arkansas around 9:00 and went to Amarillo, it only took 2.5 hours. Since Jeff used to live here we were familiar with the area. Jonny especially likes "Jorges" and the fried avacodo's. We took our time in Amarillo doing some shopping and looking for some boots for Jonny, (no luck). Then got back on the road and travelled for 5 hours to Alburquerque NM. While going thru Texas it was so boring and flat, I decided to doze off. When I woke up and saw hills, I knew we were not in Texas any longer. Went to the Alburquerque temple at 6:00. This is the first temple we had no trouble finding, and it was right on a main road not in a sub division. It is a larger temple and nice area. When we came out it was dark and we could see by the lights that Alburquerque is very large. Had trouble finding a hotel but I hope tomorrow we will be able to see this area and not just get up and drive thru. I know Jonny wants to get home, but I am still not ready yet, Was so sorry to hear my good friend George Strayer died today. I will miss him.

Day 19 Thurs 6/24/10 Lincoln AR - Clinton OK

It was hard leaving the Guthries as they wanted us to stay a couple of days. We would love to but we are both getting anxious to get home. Travelled to Oklahoma City temple only to find out it was closed for 2 weeks. Talked to the maintenance men for about a half an hour and did get to peek in the doorway. Looked really pretty. It is in the middle of no where again in an upscale neighborhood. Since we got there at 4:00 we decided to just keep travelling west. Stopped off for dinner in a little town of Weatherford and then went just a little ways down the freeway and decided we needed to find a place to stay. Stayed in an Econo Lodge which really wasn't that bad and it was only $49.99. We are getting cheaper by the day.

Again my perspect of the country is sure different, I thought Oklahoma would be dry and not very pretty. It is green and many big farms with huge homes. We haven't stopped off at any Indian places as I don't care for Southwestern decor. We will be travelling to Amarillo tomorrow and then on to Alberquerque.

Day 18 Wednesday 6/23/10 Memphis TN - Lincoln AK

Travelled from Memphis to Lincoln Arkansas, and stayed with our good friends Jim and Bobbi Guthrie. We had a wonderful dinner with their son Cord, and his 2 children and 2 missionaries. Bobbi is such a good cook. Stayed up until 12:30 a.m. just talking about all the people we both know. They make you feel so welcome when you go and visit them. I was there about 9 years ago and Jonny and Jerry Hawkins was there 2 years ago. Since we arrived at 3:30 it was nice to relax and not be in a hurry.

Day 16 Tuesday 6/22/10 - Birmingham AL to Memphis TN

Had a nice day of travel. Went thru Alabamba, Mississippi and into Memphis. As we came into Mississippi we stopped off at the Welcome center. I have never seen a more beautiful center. The country side of Mississippi is just beautiful. Someone told me years ago how ugly Mississippi was but it is not. While in Mississippi we stopped off at Elivs Presley's birthplace. His home is very tiny, and also on the property was the tiny Assembly of God church. We didn't buy a ticket as it was $12 ea. and didn't need to see the inside of a 3 room house. Jonny found a old man that worked there and talked to him for a while. He told us of a place Elvis used to eat at called Johnny's Burgers. We had lunch there and the hamburgers (not that great) were $1.19. Cost more for the Pepsi than the hamburger. Jonny actually bought himself a Johnny's Burger shirt.

Got into Memphis and found the temple which wasn't that easy to find. So glad we have a gps, Seems like most of the temples we have visited are in remote upscale neighborhoods. Since we got in early (3:00) we got a hotel (got $20 off with a coupon) and did a load of laundry. The clothes in the laundry bag were so hot and all wet. A couple of our white clothes had to be thrown out as they were getting mold on them. Did 2 loads of laundry now I am set for another week.

Went to the temple and 7:00 (only session on Tuesday nights) and met some really nice people again. When I went to put my temple clothes on they were soaking wet. They were finally dry by the time the session was over but they smell. It was 9:30 when we went for dinner at Charley's and had the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. I only ate a small portion as I wanted to enjoy them tomorrow. Jonny had potato soap and a cesear salad and great rolls.
I thinki today was the hottest ever at 10;00 it was 94 and no rain only humidity. Yuck!!!

Day 14 - Sunday 6/20/10 =Savannah, GA

Went to church in Savannah at the stake center. At 9:00 it looked like very few people were there but by 9:15 the chapel was full. They had 4 baptisims yesterday of which 3 were Spanish speaking. After church we took a trolley tour thru the historical district which was very informative. Got off and walked 6 blocks (in sandals) to a Pirate restaurant. There was a big church that just got out as we were passing it and many of them also went to the restaurant (I think they had reservations). We waited for 1 hour and had the buffet(chicken, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans, lima beans collard greens, fried okra, grouper biscuits/corn bread and key lime pie. It was very good and I only had 1 helping, Jonny had 2. We walked back to the riverfront (changed my shoes ) and looked around but didn't buy anything. Caught the bus and went back to where we got on. The traffic was not as bad as last night, but it was nice we didn't have to worry about parking as it is free if you take the tours.

Drove about 3o minutes to Tybee Island. It is a resort town and the beach was packed. There wasn't any place to change into my bathing suit(don't even know if it still fits). I had a tank top and capris on so I just rolled up the pants and went into the ocean in that. The water is so warm and wished I would have worn my suit. I couldn't believe the size of some of the women who wear bikini's. I would have fit in with most of the people, but I still have my pride. We stayed until 5:00 and knew that it usually starts raining around 4-6 and didn't want to be caught in it. Just as we got off the freeway and we were 1 block away it started to rain and it starts by pouring (no sprinkling first). We both took and nap and then later went for our dessert (no dinner again, still full from lunch) at McDonalds. This was our entertainment for the evening. Aren't we wild!!!!

Day 13 Friday 6/18/10 Savannah GA

We left Charleston about 9:00 and toured Magnolia Plantation. Very interesting with lots of swamps on this property. I took the tour of the plantation while Jonny sat outside talking to some guy. He then toured the gardens while I was inside (he didn't want to pay the $7.00) for the house tour. The house was burned during the Civil War, and then rebuilt.
After I got outside we toured the swamps and stopped and talked with a pastor and his wife. He had a camera with a lens 2 feet long. At first I thought it was some kind of gun.

Drove to Savannah, and the first thing we did was stop at a welcome center. The lady was real nice and was helping us find a hotel. The prices she quoted us was $89 - $119 per night. We decided to try one outside of town. Jonny took a wrong turn and who knows where we ended up but it wasn't Savannah. After about 20 minutes we turned off and had lunch at "Ronnies". Jonny talked to the waitress and found out some information about Savannah. She also told him about places to stay. We found a nice Microtel (have never stayed in one before) and it was only $54. Tomorrow it will be $44. It even has a McDonald's in front of the hotel.

We were going to go into Savannah again but there was a big thunderstorm that lasted about an hour, so we took a nap instead. Around 6;00 we ventured into Savannah, first we looked up where there was a church and went by it. It was about 20 miles away but it is a big one probably a stake center, and it is in a very nice area. Of course when we get lost we always end up in the ghetto, which we did today but no problems. Finally found downtown Savannah and it took us 45 minutes to find a parking place. I thought San Francisco was bad. It is Saturday night and it is extremely busy on the weekend (according to a girl that works in Paula Deen's restaurant). I hope to go there on Monday, if Jonny is not wanting to get on the road back home. I may have to do it by myself. I'd like to leave Savannah on Tuesday and head to Atlanta, but we shall see.

Day 12 -Thursday - 6/17/10 - Charleston SC

Today was a short day in driving, only 150 miles. Took a city tour of Charleston and spent a short time shopping at the market place. If found a small aligator head I wanted to buy for Blake, but Jonny said oh we can find those someplace cheaper -NOT. Had a nice seafood lunch at
AW Shucks good lunch. Made a mistake of asking for directions at a information place that turned out to be a time share, We got some free tickets to a plantation for tomorrow but we were there for 3.5 hours.

I was a little disappointed in what I saw today in Charleston. It just wasn't what I was expecting at all. Hopefully tomorrow things will look better. We are staying in a beautiful hotel =Comfort Suite (also part of the time share deal) so I hope to be sleeping like a queen. I would just like to stay in one place more than 2 days and really see the town.

Jonny is snoring like a train so I better close for now if I want to get any sleep.

Day 11 - Wednesday 6/16/10Asheville,NC to Columbia,SC

Well I can now check off the Biltmore on my bucket list. What an impressive home. there are only 250 rooms and 125,000 acres. Jonny really didn't want to go but he had no choice. We did a lot of walking today and it felt good to get out an walk. After the tour we walked to the gardens then to the bass pond with was about 3 miles round trip. It is humid but I didn't mind at all. We had our pictures taken by the staff when he got into the house and I had taken so much time to do my hair, then when I looked at the picture I wonder if I should have taken more time. That's what humidity does!!! I took the shuttle back to the truck and Jonny decided he could go faster by walking. I was at the truck a good 15 minutes for him. When he finally got there he said he had been talking to "Gary" the guy that directs the cars into the grounds. They must of formed some kind of friendship as Jonny told me things all day as to what "Gary" said. One thing that Gary said, was people from Northern California are so friendly, but the ones from So. Cal are snobs. I guess his concept of No Cal people are friendly is true especially after talking to Jonny. Gary is an Obama fan and Jonny did not even challenge him on that one.

After the tour we stopped off at a cute little bar/grill and had lunch. Jonny said it was the best hamburger he has had in a long time. Had a great southern waitress which we talked to for a long time. Also had a drink called cherrywine. Its like a cherry 7-up. On our way out of town had to stop off at the local grocery store and get a 12 back.

Drove for 2.5 hours to Columbia SC, where we went to the temple there. Very friendly people. When we walked out of the temple it was like going into a sauna bath, very humid. There goes the hair again. I think if I could find a cute hat I would buy one then I wouldn't have to worry about my hair. Hey I shouldn't worry as no knows me and I will never see them again.

Jonny told me not to talk to loud when we are in a public area, as we will be labled as a tourist. Now we just say "you-all" all the time so we can fit in. We head to Charleston tomorrow and should stay there for 2-3 days. will be nice not to drive all day and just look at the local area.

Day 11 Wednesday 6/16/10 Smoky Mts & Asheville

I hardly slept last night, after reading an email from Yvonne Wood telling me we need to go thru the Smokey Mountains and then to the Biltmore. I dreamed of going to the Biltomore but never thought I would get the chance. Now it is one more thing on my bucket list I can cross off.

Our first stop on the road thru the Smokey Mts. was a knife store. We weren't going to stop but there were so many people there we had to find out what all the hype was. If you needed a knife they had it, along with guns, swords, ninga stuff and of course t shirts and all that goes with tourists. I thought this would be a less travelled road but boy was I wrong. When we got to Pigeon Forge (Dollyworld) it was like we were back in Branson,MO. there were tourists all over the place. A girl in a shop told us a good place to eat was Bullfish and she was right. I had a grouper sandwich and Jonny had a crab cake sandwich, we both only ate half and had the other half for dinner. I like that most of the rooms now have microwaves and refrigerators in them.

We got to the Biltmore at 5:00 and got tickets for tomorrow. Jonny almost had a heart attack when he found out it was $130. I tried to get him to stay in the car while I bought the tickets, but it was too hot so he came in. It is so beautiful here. . Tomorrow will be great I can hardly wait.

Day 10 - Tuesday 6/15/10 Louisville & Lexington

Today was the 1st day we saw blue skies all day until about 9:00 p.m. when the black clouds came in and of course the wind, rain, lightning and thunder. We decided to go for a drive to Lexington(70 miles away) where all the big horse ranches are. When I say big the average is 400-600 acres. Many of the homes you can't see as they are far off the road. I'm sure "Tara" in Gone with the Wind was like this.

We decided to visit a bourbon distillery. I had no idea how it was made. When we got there the 12:30 group just left and they couldn't take us as they already had 2 more people than they can handle. They told us they would have another one in 20 minutes. 45 minutes later we told them we had to leave so they decided since we had waited this long we could have a mini tour. It was very interesting, felt a little light headed from the fumes. In the fermenting room it is only 101 but felt much hotter as there was a lot of steam. They will stop producing sometime this week as the weather will be hot and the yeast won't activite if it is much hotter. They shut down for 2 months until the weather starts cooling down. After the tour we were invited to the tasting room for 2 shots but we declined. They had some fudge and honey candy but we declined that too. We got lost a few times, and then in the afternoon we went into downtown (roads torn up for repairs) and found the visitor's center. They were really helpful and we were only a few blocks off where we were suppose to be.

There just isn't enough time to see all that we wanted. We have a long drive tomorrow and are going to try and visit Yvonne Wood in Charlotte .

Jonny and I are still talking and enjoying each other. We went to the Louisville temple. tonight, It is a vert small temple, located in a beautiful upscale neighborhood. I have only seen 1 LDS chapel and it was on the same grounds of the temple. Lots of Baptist churches everywhere.

Day 9 - Monday 6/14/10 Indianapolis - Louisville

Another day of driving, most of the time was on back roads (misread gps) and then made it to the expressway. As we approached Indianapolis there was a severe thunderstorm approaching the downtown area, so we pulled over at a rest stop and waited it out. They track the storm and know minute by minute where it is travelling to. Got into Indianapolis at 4:00 and went to the Indy 500 speedway. We only had an hour to spend there but it was incredible. It is so much bigger than it looks, Jonny would have loved to be able to ride in a car around the track just one time. On our way to Louisville we stopped off at an outlet and bought a few tops as I didn't bring cool enough clothes, We also needed to stock up on our book tapes. They have been a life saver.

Arrived in Louisville (pronounced Lou A vil) at 9:30 then I did one of my favorite things - LAUNDRY!!!! Yeah!! now were good for another week.

Day 8 - Sunday 6/13/10 -Nauvoo Il - Springfield IL

Got up early and went to Sacrament meeting at 8:00 a.m. There was approx 500 people. 90% of them were senior missionaries and the ones that work in the visitors center just attend sacrament as they have to be onsite at 9:30. We came back to the hotel and there was a big thunder storm this morning so we didn't check out of hotel until 11:00. Went down to the sites we didn't get a chance to visit yesterday and toured those. Even walked about a mile to the Mississippi River so I could get some sand for Patsy.

We went to Carthage Jail even tho we had been there before. The rain had stopped but it started to pour again. We drove the long way to Springfield IL, birthplace of Abraham Lincoln. Got a room and then went to a very nice seafood restaurant. As we were waiting I asked a lady who was leaving if she enjoyed her dinner. She was so friendly and ended up giving us a 2 for 1 coupon. We had steak and shrimp for $20 for the both of us. If I continue eating like this I will be wearing my nightgown as of now my pants are really getting tight. I am afraid to step on a scale. We planned on our destinations for the next 3 days so we don't spend all of the time on backroads taking a lot longer than necessary. Everything is so pretty but I am getting tired of cornfields and looking forward to going to Indianapolis tomorrow then onto Louisville KY.

Day 6 - Friday 6/11/10 - Nauvoo, Illinois

Got up early and went into town for breakfast, Jonny didn't like the first place we went to as it was a buffet and too expensive, so he asked a lady on the street for suggestions. She sent us to Dotties. When we walked in there it was not a typical breakfast restaurant, it was a combo/bar/restaurant and there were only 5 people in place, 3 men at the bar and a couple in a booth. The men at the bar were drinking beer and it was only 9:00. I think the Mormons here in town do not come into this establishment. We both order a 'mess' for breakfast, it was potatoes, eggs, ground sausage, onions, peppers, and it was so good. The rest of the day we spent in lower Nauvoo at the Jospeh Smith restoration. It started to rain a little just as we left and while we were on a covered wagon ride it started to pour and thunder. After looking at some sites I told Jonny I needed to buy an umbrella as it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Went back up to town and went to several places and everyone was out. We decided to have lunch in the place we didn't eat breakfast at. While waiting for the food saw a couple walk by with 2 big umbrella's. They came into the resaturant and immediately asked them where they found the umbrella, they said just next door in the sewing store. I went there immediately as our food hadn't come yet and got one and the cost was a whopping $1.63. I should have bought 10 of them and sold them for $10.00. When we left the restaurant it stopped raining and was a pretty day. See if I carry an umbrella it won't rain.

We toured some more places but Jonny was getting antsy about going into the homes (said it was like the castles in England). We split up for about an hour then met to go to a performance. Yes he is trying to do cultural. It was over an hour of singing and dancing and he was such a good sport. After we were talking to a missionary couple and they talked about how much they need senior missionary couples and would we be interested? They said most of them are our age but they did have one younger couple serving here for 6 mos., and their main job is to mow the lawns, Jonny said where do I sign up. Can't you just see him doing this, maybe I could do it too as I do have experience. I think there is 164 acres so it would be a full time job.

We went into a family living exibit and learned how to make a rope, barrel (Jonny knew more about it than the person demonstrating) and how to make a brick. Got the little brick to bring home.

Came home at 6:00 for dinner and a nap then it was off to another musicial at 8;15, Jonny did much better and even enjoyed it as it had many funny events. I could see him in a play like this.
We were the last ones to leave as he got to talking to another missionary couple.

I hope I am not boring you but this is also my journal. Don't know what the plans are for tomorrow, I think it will be church and then finish touring the sites we didn't to today. We were here 13 years ago and some of the things I had completly forgotten about and others I remember like it was last week. Wonder if we will come back here and serve a mission????

Day 5 -Thursday - 6/10/10 -Omaha to Nauvoo Illinois

At 9:00 a.m. we arrived at the Kanesville Tabneracle and toured the center there. It is a replica of the 1st tabernacle in the wilderness, where Brigham Young was sustained as a president of the church. We started the tour with a Sister Michaelsen (older couple our age) then her husband took us to the log tabernacle. The catholic church owned this historical building and couldn't keep it up so they sold it to the Church. They remodeled it and it turned out beautiful. It is in a very seedy part of town. We were there about an hour and half as Jonny and Brother Michaelsen talked alot. I think if we were to go on a mission like this Jonny would be the talker and I would be the ?????

Arrived in Nauvoo at 4:30 and wanted to go to the temple at 5:00. There is a reception place right across the street and we able to change our clothes and make the session. I will tell you all about that experience when I see you. After the session stopped off at a new sandwich/ice cream parlor, then got a hotel room. This is a fairly new hotel and you can tell it is run by LDS as the rooms are huge. You can fit 10 people in here for sure. Also has a cute gift show, beauty shop and restaurant.

Day 4 - Wednesday - 6/9/10 -Grand Island WY - Omaha

Before we left Grand Island we toured a wonderful pioneer/prarie museum. We got there at 9:00 and it just started to rain, within 5 minutes it was pouring. I know I packed an umbrella but can't find it. Jonny wore my jacket (no hood, but he had a hat), and I wore his rain jacket with a hood. It's weird to have it rain so hard and still be in the 80's. We spent 2 hours here and we would have not stayed so long but Jonny started talking. There was a pioneer village (living history) with 3 different kinds of home, farm house, in town home, and upper class home. Jonny left me on my own as he found a hardware store, woodworking shop, blacksmith,and mercantile store. I toured all of these and he was still talking in the woodworking shop.

As for pictures found out I had never download the camera information on to the laptop. Didn't know I had to, so I will be adding the pictures when I get home.

Jonny napped for about 2 hours and I got to drive into Omaha. It is quite a large town, and with the new truck I was a little scared. As soon as we got to Council Bluffs I turned over the driving to him. Now here is our test, we stopped at a information area where they were having a blue grass jam session, it was nice but Jonny couldn't hear the lady giving us directions to the temple, so I took the information (1) bad idea. (2) driving with gps that I thought was taking us in the wrong direction, plus there was 2 detours (due to road work)and the gps doesn't pick up detours, (3) amazingly we made it to the visitors center, pioneer cemetry and temple with only a few disagreements. It was not easy to find. I went on a tour with the sister missionary and Jonny followed later as he found someone to talk to. He was wearing his Placerville Hardware t-shirt and someone asked him if he was from Placerville, that's all it took so the missionary and I went off on the tour without him. About 20 minutes later he found me. We wanted to go to the temple but we also needed to get a hotel, the missionary couple told us to go get our clothes and just change in the bathroom there at the visitor's center. We did and had a wonderful session. After we went back to Council Bluffs and stayed in a dump (Days Inn), I should have known for $54 what do you expect.

3rd day - Tuesday - 6/8/10 Utah & Wyoming

Took us a while to get out of Logan as we needed a oil change, a quick visit to the D.I. (Jonny had to get some good ties 3 for $10). I finally found the temple dress I was looking for, so now I am prepared. We got such a late start that we didn't get to any temples today. Travelled to Laramie WY. Stopped off in Rawlins and toured an old prison. Pam N. told us about one in Laramie so we thought she gave us the wrong town. Of course she didn't so now we will visit the older one in Laramie tomorrow. Travelled so far 1017 miles, and we have only been gone 2.5 days. Watched Diner,Drive-ins & Dives so tomorrow when we go to Omaha I will have a choice of 6 places to visit. Maybe we will start diet later. No pictures yet as I keep forgetting to take the camera with me, Jonny did take on with me standing out in front of Wally's Burgers. Not a bad burger.

1st Day - Sunday 6/6/10 - Dayton Nevada

Jonny had to finish mowing the lawn before we could leave. He didn't pack until 4:00 and we left at 5:30. Went to Pam and Gary Neumeister's in Dayton Nevada. Still doesn't feel like we are on vacation yet. Tomorrow we will go to Logan Utah. No pictures for this event.

I'm ready for some warm weather. Enough of the California sun!

Planning Our Get-Away!

Today we secured maps and travel books from AAA and are getting ready to plan our route. We hope to keep everyone up to date on our travels to Savannah this summer!
